$60 per person. Limited seating. Pre-registration required

Join illustrator and author Scott B. Jones for a lively, hands-on exploration of pen-and-ink drawing, vintage fountain pens, and the living history of the analog line. Blending storytelling, technique, and historical context, this session offers an engaging experience for pen collectors, creatives, writers, and anyone curious about expressive mark-making.

Drawing from decades of study and presentation, Scott explores the preservation of vintage writing instruments and the golden age of illustration, while reflecting on creativity, stress, and anxiety in an increasingly digital world. Participants will learn how early illustrators became some of the first "celebrity artists," how the Ben Day process shaped mass media, and why vintage flex nibs create lines modern pens rarely replicate.

Through simple forms - circles, lines, and dots - Scott demonstrates the foundational elements of all drawing, while sharing practical insight gained from presenting at pen shows across the country. The session also focuses on building confidence, rhythm, and muscle memory, and on sustaining creative inspiration over time.

This creative, historical, and practical workshop is designed to inform and inspire.

All materials provided including paper, ink and vintage pens from the 1920s and earlier. If you want to bring your own pens or have questions about your vintage pens, you are welcome to do so. You will receive a handout and a signed copy of Scott's latest book.
