SHEAFFER SNORKELS FROM THE OUTSIDE ON IN - FULL EDITION: A HANDS-ON REPAIR EXPERIENCE

$190

Nick Mastricola

Sunday, August 9 (9 - 12pm)

$190 per person (If you bring your own, you will receive a $50 refund). Limited seating. Pre-registration required

Are you curious about how the most complicated fountain pen filling system works? Are you interested in learning how these pens can be made to write like new again? Look no further! This seminar will answer your questions and give you a unique hands-on opportunity.

After a short explanation and demo, the participants will be put into groups of 3 to share the tools provided. Each participant will receive a pen (you may also bring your own pen) and necessary supplies (sacs, seals, tools, etc.) to complete the Snorkel restoration during the remaining time. All tools and materials will be provided for the seminar.

Parts for provided pens will be available as needed at no charge. If a participant chooses to provide their own Snorkel (only Snorkels will be accepted à NO PFMs or

TouchDowns), a discount ($50) will be given. Participants using their own pens will have the option to purchase parts as needed during the workshop.

Each hands-on workshop participant will leave with a list of tools and materials with sources, a Snorkel repair manual written by the presenter, and a working Snorkel that they completed during the seminar. A repaired and warrantied Snorkel typically sells for between $150 and $175 at a pen show.

Extra sacs, seals, a limited number of tools, and other consumables will be available for purchase after the seminar if you would like to continue your Snorkel repair practice at home.

Cost: $190 (If you bring your own, you will receive a $50 refund)

Nick Mastricola

Nick grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While attending Michigan Technological University, a professor introduced him to fountain pens and he soon began collecting and using them himself.

In 2010, he moved to Ohio to attend Ohio State University’s graduate school. It was also in 2010 when he attended his first pen show. Shortly thereafter, he began repairing his own pens. After finishing his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, he worked as a lecturer at the university before getting a full-time position at Honda R&D North America.

In 2021, the organizers of the Columbus Pen Show asked if anyone local could do repair work since no repair people were slated to come. Nick jumped in to fill the spot. Since then, he has been repairing and restoring pens at various shows in the US. In 2023, he was transferred to Japan for work. While there, he exhibited at the Tokyo Pen Show. He moved back to the US in 2025, and is selling, repairing, and restoring pens in the US again.

Nick’s collecting and repairing interests (in the pen world) are mostly Snorkels, complicated and unusual filling mechanisms, pens with two or more nibs, any brand of safety pen, pens with unusual features, Pelikan 140s, and Montblanc. However, anything that catches his eye is fair game! He currently resides in Ohio, and continues to do his day job for Honda R&D while continuing to growing his pen business.
